Since the beginning of the 2021 school year, many students are looking for potential clubs to participate in. One of the many fun clubs offered at Harrisburg High School is the student council, a group for anyone looking for an application bonus, leadership experience, new friends, and decision-making skills when it comes to school-wide events. The homecoming dance, which was space-themed this year, was all planned out thanks to the student council. As of this year, the student council has also received two new advisors, Ms. Chambers, and Mrs. Hettinger. Ms. Chambers, who is an English teacher here at Harrisburg, stated that all the kids in the student council are extremely fun to work with. She believes that as long as students can show up to all the weekly meetings with a positive attitude, then it is a fun time for everyone involved.
Sydney Hage, a senior at Harrisburg High School, explained that one of her favorite aspects about student council is voicing her ideas and opinions to peers because she knows that they care just as much about those topics as she does. However, one aspect that Sydney pointed out was she wished that more people would sign up for the student council. She believes that students have strong opinions about events go on at our school but can't make a real change without being in the student council. Berkeley Halstenson, another senior student council member at Harrisburg High, has been a part of student council’s stronger presence on social media. The student council and its members easily spread the news of upcoming events out to the whole school primarily through Instagram and Twitter. Overall, the goal of the student council is to create a community within our school through organizing events, helping students, and demonstrating school spirit.
